Maunsel House is a magnificent 13th Century Manor set in 100 acres of stunning parkland at the heart of a sprawling 2000 acre Estate, comprising of farms, lakes, walnut groves, orchards, Somerset wetlands, cottages and ancient barns.
As you enter Maunsel House through the Victorian vine covered porch, the first room that you come to is a twelfth century hall with a magnificent Tudor ceiling complete with stunning brass chandelier.
The original part of the house, dating back to pre-1066 has flagstone floors, a 14th century window and beamed ceiling where you can really feel the weight of history on you. This room has the most magnificent fireplace.
The large regency Ballroom is extremely light, with ceiling high French windows opening out onto the lawn. The walls are opulently hung with old masters and the windows are all framed with exquisite, pale gold silk curtains.
The dining room again has fabulous high ceilings and beautiful Regency French windows that open out onto our manicured lawns. An incredibly elegant sage green room, hand blocked with a delicate gold motif, the centrepiece of which is a sixteen-foot solid walnut dining table beside a marble fireplace.
The library provides perfect Victorian Gothic splendour. This panelled room is dominated by the most magnificent stone fireplace that provides a wonderful focal point. This room is steeped in history that no one can ignore and also has French windows, which open out onto our beautiful conservatory leading into the walled orchard garden and rare breed wildfowl enclosure.
The sweeping main staircase takes you up to the bedrooms which are all individual in charm and character.
Many of the bedrooms have four poster beds and en-suite bathrooms. There are some striking features which include a 30ft, vaulted ceiling with sumptuous dressed gothic windows in the King’s Room, wide Elizabethan four poster bed, a Copper Bateau Bath, one of the few remaining Edwardian canopy baths and an elegant panelled bedroom
Maunsel House is an ideal setting for all types of events, and our on-site events team will be happy to help you plan every stage from conferences and team building to weddings and parties.
The house is licensed for civil ceremonies in the glorious ballroom or in the wisteria garlanded gazebo. Also within the Maunsel Estate is St Michael Church.
