The Tivoli Theatre

Having survived the threat of demolition in 1979 from a rapidly abandoned road scheme, the Tivoli Theatre will celebrate 20 successful years in November 2013. Following a lengthy campaign to save the building, restoration cold finally begin. All through 1993 volunteers worked long and hard to get the building into a fit state to open to the public. The Tivoli Theatre now has a permanent team who give their time to on-going maintenance and further improvement of the facilities.

The Tivoli Theatre was built in 1936 as an Art Deco cine/theatre and the tradition of showing film and live performance continues to the present day. Big audiences for major shows have become a regular occurrence at the Tivoli and the theatre has once again achieved the status of a major 500 seat venue. Local people enjoy the finest and latest films available and with digital projection and full surround sound.

The Trevoli is justly proud that for a theatre of its size it has brought shows and performers to this area which would not have been thought possible back in 1993. The feedback from artists and agents backs up the claim to this phenomenal success.

Artist who have appeared here include Lee Evans, Charlie Watts, Eddie Izzard, Michel McIntyre, Ginger Baker, Pam Ayres, Lesley Garrett, Jack Dee, Mick Taylor, Albert Lee, Chris Farlowe, Paul Jones, Jim Davidson, Des O’Conner, Cleo Laine, Alan Price, Georgie Fame, Elkie Brooks, Vienna Festival Ballet, John Dankworth, Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk and the list goes on. The cinema presents the latest films within weeks of general release and the pantomime has become bigger and better each year.
