Butley Priory

Originally a 14C monastery located in the wilds of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, Butley Priory provides the perfect location for many types of Period Drama and excellent camera positions for filming it’s beautiful Suffolk surroundings.

The Priory was originally founded in 1171 with it’s first Royal visitor being King Henry III in 1235. Unique features to list but a few starting at the buildings exterior include its extensive armorial frieze and exuberant flushwork decoration, then heading inside you are greeted with soaring vaulted ceilings and a dramatic spiral staircase.

Art Directors and Production Designers will very much appreciate the authentic interiors and fantastic exteriors and Production Managers should note that there is accommodation for 11 people available on-site with plenty of parking for Unit Vehicles making Butley Priory the perfect base when filming in this beautiful part of Suffolk.
