Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway

The Ffestiniog Railway takes you on a 13½-mile journey through history to the fascinating town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The world’s oldest steam engines, Prince and Palmerston, have been in regular use on the line for more than 150 years. Trains climb over 700 feet from sea level at Porthmadog through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, clinging to the side of the mountains.

The interiors of the rolling stock are highly atmospheric and very useful for many types of period drama. The exterior landscape could double for parts of Scandinavia and many other regions of the World, the period trains will make terrific camera platforms for capturing this beautiful backdrop, whilst providing great locations for interior scenes.

The Welsh Highland is Snowdonia’s most spectacular railway. Trains start their 25 mile scenic journey from beneath the historic castle walls at Caernarfon. The comfortable trains offer freshly-cooked hot food and refreshments and climb from sea level to the foothills of Snowdon, before zig-zagging down the steep hillside to reach the picturesque village of Beddgelert, then through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass – voted the most beautiful spot in the UK by the National Trust – and on to Porthmadog Harbour Station, where we have just spent over a million pounds in a major revamp to enhance passenger comfort and convenience.

Ffestiniog Railway have many sites that can be used as Unit Bases and Production HQ’s whilst filming in this beautiful area.
