Set in over 50 Acres of grounds in the heart of the Shropshire Countryside Oswestry School provides a wonderful location for Film and TV Programme Makers.
Oswestry School can accommodate up to 130 members of Cast & Crew and with extensive parking facilities provides a perfect Unit Base/Production Headquarters when Filming in the Area.
Founded in 1407, (Eight years before The Battle of Agincourt!) it is one of the oldest non-denominational schools in England and stands on the edge of the attractive market town of Oswestry on the border of England and Wales. It is set in 50 acres of its own grounds and boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain on its doorstep.
Historical it may be, with many traditional virtues encouraged, but Oswestry is also a warm, caring and progressive school which constantly evolves with the times.
Having a varied collection of Period Buildings including a chapel, Oswestry School can accommodate a fairly wide selection of Period Drama.
Shropshire is regularly chosen by filmmakers as a backdrop for box office hits that are seen all over the world. Perhaps the all-time classic is the evocative adaptation of Mary Webb’s novel “Gone to Earth”. Not only was Mary Webb born and raised in Shropshire, but the film adaptation used some of the most striking parts of the lovely county.
“Gone to Earth” was recorded in 1949 around Much Wenlock, the Stiperstones and the Devil’s Chair, and the landscape today has changed little since then. You’ll still find it hauntingly atmospheric.
Though the brooding flickering celluloid that captured Shropshire in “Gone to Earth” made way for glorious Technicolor, new producers and directors also have fallen in love with Shropshire and many Films and TV Programmes have taken advantage of Shropshires beautiful scenery as a backdrop to their projects.
